02-Exercises - For F#m-NAF

.

On this page I will give some BASIC lessons for the "F#m-Native-American-Flute (NAF)."  The F#m-NAF has two important natural scales, the F#m-Pentatonic-Scale (Video 1 and 2) and the A-Major-Scale (Video 3 and 4). You can create many more scales, but you will need to know the chromatic tone steps, which would be an advanced lesson.

.

VIDEO-1 - How to play the "F#m Minor Pentatonic Scale" - on the F#m Native American Flute:   PDF

The first step is to know your materials/tones F#m-Pentatonic-Scale (5 tone scale), which is the easiest way to get a feeling for the Native American Flute and their related songs. The High Spirit Flutes come mostly with a leather band around the 3rd hole from the top, which enables you to play just the "Pentatonic Scale."

.

When playing along with the VIDEOS and your flute sounds off, play around with more or less air.

HIGHER: More/harder air flow higher the tone,

LOWER: softer/less air flow makes the tone lower.

.

The lower tones of the NAF need a little less air. The higher tones need a little more. The highest tone "a2" is call an "overblown" tone, you need to play stronger/louder/harder to get it. If you play the highest tone "a2" too soft, you will hear a flat "f#," if you blow in much too strong, a double-overblown-tone may be squeaking loudly you ears (and your cats and dogs will run away).

WENDEYAHO for F#m NAF

Cherokee Morning Song

(A song in the "Pentatonic Minor Scale")

.

Freely translated: "Awe n'" (I am), "de" (of), "Yauh" --the-- (Great Spirit), "Ho" (it is so). Written as: Awe n' de Yauh ho (I am of the Great Spirit, Ho!). This language stems from very ancient Cherokee. The "Cherokee Morning Song" was sung by women only as part of the morning prayers, facing the rising sun, welcoming the new day.

.
Every morning, you must have a thought for the rising sun. He is the Great Spirit, the origin of life and the source of all wisdom. Likehim, you shall know the birth and decline, before coming to shine again. Learn to observe. Every morning, nature shows you the returnof life.

.
"Rise up early in the morning, wet your face with cold water and offers a prayer to the Sun, with a dawning feeling of the heart. The creation starts with you."
